It's very simple to build a mini greenhouse in your backyard. In fact, it's probably one of the easiest DIY projects you can attempt. There are a few different types of small greenhouses that you can choose from, all with their own advantages and disadvantages. Styles Of Mini Greenhouses

As previously mentioned, there are a few options to choose from regarding greenhouses. Since this article rules out large models, this list is narrowed down to the following designs:
- The modular hot bed greenhouse, which is essentially a low laying heating box. It comes up about 2 feet, and is made from small lengths of lumber and polyethylene plastic to conduct the solar energy from the sun. This is a great design if you're after something easy to build, discreet, and portable.
- Next comes the free standing grow rack greenhouse. This one is shaped something like a refrigerator, and can be placed in an sunny corner of your property. Inside are 5 or 6 shelves that you can place seedlings or larger plants on. Again, this one uses similar materials to the hot bed.
- For something a bit larger, you could build a lean-to greenhouse. This is not self-standing, and uses an existing structure to stay up, like a fence, or your house. This is again quite simple to build, but can be a little unattractive, especially if it's nailed to your home!
Choosing The Best Materials
As with everything DIY, you've got quite a choice in terms of construction materials. Generally it's best to go with treated pine and polyethylene plastic. They're cheap and relatively attractive. However, if you've got a bit of extra cash to splash, and want to go for a chemical-free greenhouse, you can always substitute pine for cedar. This species of wood is naturally resistant to water and rot. Plastic alternatives are glass and green cloth.
